LinkReader is built to respect your privacy. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles, where it goes, and what we never do.
LinkReader converts web articles into audio so you can listen to them. Articles you save are stored privately in your own iCloud account and processed into audio on your own devices. No data passes through our servers.
We collect no personal data. LinkReader does not have user accounts, does not run analytics, does not serve ads, and does not track your usage in any way.
The following data is created and stored exclusively within your own iCloud account (using Apple's private CloudKit database) and on your own devices:

LinkReader requests microphone access only when you choose to record a voice note while listening to an article. Voice note audio is stored locally on your device and in your private iCloud. It is never sent to us or any third party unless you explicitly use the OpenAI provider (see below).
Speech recognition (to transcribe voice notes into text) is performed on-device using Apple's framework. No audio leaves your device for this purpose.
OpenVox is a separate third-party application you install on your Mac to generate audio. When you use OpenVox, article text is sent from LinkReader to OpenVox running locally on your own Mac — it never leaves your machine. OpenVox's own privacy policy applies to that application.
If you choose to use OpenAI as your text-to-speech provider, you supply your own OpenAI API key in Settings. When generating audio, article text is sent to OpenAI's servers using your key. Your API key is stored securely in your device's Keychain, not in plaintext. OpenAI's Privacy Policy governs how they handle that data.
LinkReader does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app has no registration or login and collects no personal information from any user.
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
